Q & A

DIGI-Label is an online platform created to support wine and liquor companies in complying with international label legislation.

The platform enables users to create product batch/lot-specific QR codes, which are then listed along with the other mandatory information on the physical product label. The product's nutritional information, ingredients list, and related warnings are accessible to consumers via the QR code.

South African liquor companies benefit from the legal and technical expertise needed to generate e-labels without incurring additional costs.

No subscription fees are charged and all liquor products as defined by the Liquor Products Act 60 of 1989 can be registered on the platform.

The DIGI label platform was developed for the South African Liquor Industry to assist the industry in complying with international legislation. No subscription fees are charged.

The brand owner registers their brands and their respective labels on the DIGI-Label platform, with each brand label and batch getting its own unique QR Code. The QR Code is then affixed to the physical product as part of the label or as a separate sticker label. The consumer will then be able to scan the QR Code on the product and view the nutritional information, ingredients list and other relevant information pertaining to the product.

Only South African liquor brand owners and their label designers may register their businesses and assign users that will be responsible for using the platform to generate digital labels and their related QR Codes.

Brand owners are able to give their Label Designer/s access to some or all of their brands registered on the platform to generate digital labels and their related QR Codes.

All liquor products as defined by the Liquor Products Act 60 of 1989 can be registered on the platform. As provided for under Regulation (EU) 2021/2117 as of 8 December 2023, it will be compulsory for all wine products sold in the EU market to list nutrition declaration and list of ingredients. Thus all liquor products destined for the EU market will thus need to conform to the regulations and should be registered.
